Golden State is at the top of the league and are favorites to win the championship this summer. So much of the team’s success is built on Klay Thompson and Draymond Green who are currently one of the lower paid players on the team. It will be interesting to see what happens this summer when these players are looking for new contract.
Part of the reason Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Harrison Barnes are making so little (relatively) is they are still on their rookie deals. The way the owners and players have set-up contract structures, your pay bands are dependent on years in the league. That is seen clearly below. Here’s a quick look at salaries compared with how much floor time players have seen in 2014-15. On the right of the graph you see what many consider Golden State’s young big three (Sorry Harrison). However, only Steph is making big NBA money while Draymond and Klay will soon be receiving much larger contracts. In the meantime, they remain some of the best bargains in the NBA.
